Ref Drill Down Day, Castlebar, March 5th, 2009 An excellent opportunity to meet like minded people.
I made a number of useful contacts and believe they will lead to new business for GVS. Well organised and hosted by Liam. I really enjoyed the morning and found it very useful.

    Peter Costello Says:

I think it went very well. A short talk helps, but it is actually the fact that you are meeting new people that have something in common. Everybody is a potential customer, so the more you meet the better chance you have of selling something. It is the networking that is important. And if we are to be really honest, here we are in the middle (probably start) of a recession and after two courses, the hotel has got a bit of business, I have got a bit of work out of it. I presume Sli Nua are doing OK. I cant speak for anyone else. (of course, I would like to think the people that bought off me have got great value out of it as well) So looking at it from that point of view, yes it is a great idea and I do believe a lot of people will get something out of it. Take care, talk soon, Peter Costello, Rhymes 4 Reasons

    Colin Teahon Says:

I found the Slí Nua Drill Down Day session in Castlebar really useful. The speaker was very positive but also realistic about the times we are in. I definitely took some pointers from him. The excercises between groups allowed for a lot of interaction and the fact that groups rotate makes networking easier. I got business from two participants on the day and one more since.

    David Walsh Says:

I thoroughly enjoyed the Drill Down Day at Days Hotel in Castlebar on Thursday, March 5th!
Most people are slow to leave their boxes or comfort zones and your workshop allowed like-minded folk to express themselves to the full in a way they would normally find difficult to achieve on a day-to-day basis.
The exercises were valuable, short and to the point where each person had to sum up what they do for a living in approx one minute to others at the table, and then we were given an opportunity to recommend five key areas that we believe would assist the business of the other person in going forward.
I certainly improved my focus on areas of my business I am going to develop further as a result of these recommendations and I am sure many others left the room thinking of new ways and strategies they too will implement in their respective businesses.
Furthermore, your guest speaker MJ Reddington got us going on the right frame of mind with positive stories and examples of people who never let recession get the better of them. In fact his tips on success were very useful indeed

    Bernie Fahy Says:

The Drill Down Day was fantastic – fun, a great way to make contacts, and also a place where only people in a positive frame of mind were in attendance. That is so important right now, with so much negativity around the place. If you are serious about your small-medium business here in the west of Ireland, give Sli Nua a shout. Sli Nua have led me to new business, and also got me to look more closely at what I am doing. I have never been more positive about my business, despite the talk of the recession. Going to Sli Nua events (two so far, more to come hopefully) is the best thing I\\\’ve done this year in business. Control lies in your own hands. Bernie.

    Liam Horan Says:

Folks, just found out that Peter Costello (our resident poet!) will have a piece of his work featured tomorrow morning (Friday) on Morning Ireland (RTE Radio One.) Peter wrote a poem about road safety to coincide with Mothers Day, and Mayo County Council have put it on special Mothers Day cards. Tune in if you get a chance.

  7. 7
    Liam Horan Says:

Alas, Tony O went and announced his resignation overnight. Which killed available time on Morning Ireland, so the poem by Peter Costellos on road safety did not feature. But there is talk of it featuring next week. We will keep you posted here. Peter has his new website up – rhymes4reasons dot com

    Fin Keegan Says:

I have been to two Drill Down days: the first was outstanding, the second was stellar.

I will jump at the next chance to attend.

Why? Because I get practical ideas to improve my business (mendr.net: internet solutions)

The success of Sli Nuas events lies in their humility…rather than bombard us with the same powerpoint cliches other business consultants trade in, they take the radical step of harnessing the inspiration and experience of their PARTICIPANTS.

(Of course that approach only works if you know what you are doing…which Sli Nua surely do).

    Adrian Corcoran Says:

Speaking as owner of Attik Designs Web Design, I thoroughly enjoyed the Drill Down Day and found it very useful in making contacts and networking with other business people in the area. In one of the exercises, it was refreshing getting the marketing opinions of business people involved in completely unrelated professions to my own business, on my own business, something I had not considered before. I would certainly recommend the Drill Down Day to others in the SME sector.

    Alan Smyth Says:

I attended the last Drill Down Day in Days Hotel in Galway. I have to say it really was excellent and I would strongly recommend people no matter what your business is to attend future courses. Compared to other networking opportunities they are very well run, excellent value and you get a real chance to showcase your business to lots of potential new customers. Many thanks to Liam for organising these events so well. wwww.contentcollector.i

    Liam Horan Says:

Bernie Fahy, the Skin Specialist, is getting ready for an appearance on TV3 morning programme very soon. More anon. Will keep you posted. She has put three guinea pigs (including moi) through a special Green Peel session, which, she assures us, will leave us ten years younger. She cannot be accused of funking a challenge!

    John Redington Says:

Both Mike Lyons and myself have a small energy consultancy business in Oranmore, Co Galway, called Future Energy Solutions West.
We have attended two network events that Liam and his team have organised. We cannot praise them enough for the value we gained from these events. Its very down to earth and realistic. Liam let the chat flow throughout the session and after a while you learn so much from all the other attendees…the good, the bad and the ugly of running your own business, but the knowledge and contacts you make are invalulable. We will attend many more sessions that Sli Nua Training organise. We have a very small budget to spend on promotion and training but Sli Nua will always be on top of out list for money well spent..John Redington :)

    Seán McGuire Says:

WOW! The energy in the room at the two recent Slí Nua events in Castlebar was amazing.

Both the speaker and the attendees were a fantastic source of information.

I was really energised going back to work and am looking forward to implementing lots of new ideas. It was great to be able to talk other business owners as I find you can be too close to your own business to see the obvious.

Not to be missed if you are serious about your business.

    Auveen O\'Neill Says:

Attended the recent PR session in Castlebar – am sometimes asked by clients to try to get a piece about them in specific trade magazines – found that Lesley and Liam offered insight into the minds of editors which gave me good pointers for future emails.
The training approach was relaxed and inclusive – it is always relevant to hear how other businesses, in very different sectors, develop their public profile. Many sectors were represented on the day

    Joe Gibbons Says:

Whilst I enjoyed the Castlebar session with Peter Lawless I left feeling slightly uneasy. The next day I realised why. The course had made me go outside my comfort zone. It taught me a number of lessons – when selling, ask for the business – seal the deal – what can I do for the customer – there is loads of business out there – embrace technology even more.
I also made contacts, learned management techniques from the best lecturers ever – other business owners and managers. Definitely the best money I have spent in many years

  16. 16
    Ciarán Duignan Says:

The last training day was fantastic. It sparked off many new ideas to help the growth of my company. In the days that followed the last training day, not only have I gained more business due to these new ideas, but I have done work for some of the contacts I made at the event.

I look forward to the next training day.

    Mairead Geehan Says:

hank you for a great Drill Down Day in Castlebar. I found the speaker to be very motivational and he had a lot of down to earth advice.

It was also great to meet other businesses of all types, and hear what they are doing to beat the credit crunch! I also got a lot of feedback as to what hotels can do to encourage more people to holiday in Ireland.

It was also a great networking opportunity
    for all involved.

I also found the day to be very well run. So thanks again Slí Nua. I look forward to the next one.

    Nicola O Rourke Says:

I attended the PR course in Castlebar recently. I learned loads not only from the facilitators but also from fellow attendees. Working from home with no colleagues often sends me a bit loopy, it was great to have other people to bounce ideas off.
I love the networking aspect of the courses too. I managed to bag a few orders too. Happy days!

    Laura Connolly Says:

Thanks to Liam, Noel and Susan for an inspirational morning in Galway. It was fantastic to meet with people from other businesses and share helpful business ideas. A jargon free, straight talking Drill Down Day which was quite inspirational and helpful. I would definitely recommend anyone in business to attend similar Drill Down Days. It was definitely the best networking event I have been to in a long time. Thanks again to Liam, Noel, and Susan for a well organised event. I will be back…

    Helen Toner Says:

Big thank you to Liam and the team for the course yesterday, it was nothing like I expected it to be. It was brilliant to see so many people in the one room with brilliant minds and brilliant businesses, it was great to get so many ideas and feedback. I would recommend this to anyone :D

  21. 21
    Liam Horan Says:

Thanks to all who came along yesterday and took part with such gusto. Great suggestions and ideas came up and hopefully you will be able to put some of them into action over the next couple of weeks. Be patient, as Peter Costello said yesterday, the place called Rome was not built in a day. If you found the day useful, all we would ask is that you tell some others who you think might benefit. We all need to help each other in these times.

    Marie Therese Connolly Says:

I would like to thank Liam personally for the Sli Nua training day which helped me to see that progress can only occur if you take action..action has grace and magic…so has Sli Nua training I think!!
I felt like a misfit amongst the business people but Liam and his team showed that their training techniques suit businesses and the one man (or woman) band out there needing some advice or direction..definitely time well spent!! I now have my songs up on myspace.com (however roughly) thanks to the help I received from Sli Nua!! On the right road now!!! myspace.com/mariethereseconnolly if anyone interested!?

    Lesley Emerson Says:

To me networking is the lifeblood of a succesful business. 100% of our business in PR West comes in from networking – formal, informal and often accidental!

I enjoy the light hearted, comfortable approach of Drill Down Days. Business owners find themselves networking effectively … yet painlessly.

My advice to businesses? Get yourself on the Sli Nua mailing list. You have nothing to lose and everything in the world to gain.

    Niall Devlin Says:

First i would like to thank Liam and team for setting this up and getting it going. Getting the opportunity to align with like-minded people in Ireland is great, the brainstorming and creative ideas that come out of it for people to progress is really helpful.

I recently attended a Drill down session in Galway. I was delighted with the fast paced, goal-focused feel to the half day session.

I met a room full of enthusiastic and inspiring business people.

I left with a renewed vigour for my business. I will certainly be attending again.

    Fin Keegan Says:

I have now been to three Drill Down Days and have found each successive one has built on the results of the previous encounters.

Firstly, because I am focusing with ever more precision on the needs of potential clients as they outline their situations and give their advice.

Secondly, because my presentation and pitches get an immediate and usefully critical response; everybody is there to learn and generally contributes in that spirit.

Finally, I develop and renew links with businesspeople and innovators in the region whom I respect and relate to.

Once again: hats off to Sli Nua!

    Alison Dickson Says:

I attended the Drill Down Day in Galway and not only thoroughly enjoyed the experience but also found it extremely productive. It allowed me a unique opportunity to interact with like-minded people from a broad spectrum of businesses, within a structured framework, to brainstorm realistic ideas that could lead to business expansion. The evelator speech concept helped me focus on what I want to achieve in my business. Overall I thought the morning was well structured and hosted by Liam and would have no hesitation in attending, or recommending, another one either locally or within the western region.

    Orla Casey Says:

Well done Liam and crew at Slí Nua on a really powerful Drill Down day in Galway last week. Without the stuffy formality of other networking events, what struck me was the integrity of the event, the positivity and good humour, and the refreshing openness by all involved. Business was flying at the event, really good leads generated that I am working on.

    Brian Golden Says:

Great Drill Down Day in Galway last week. The energy in the room and interaction between participants was amazing. The three hours went by in a heartbeat and was both enjoyable and a great learning experience. This does not happen by accident… You did a great job on facilitating the session – well done Liam.

    Ellen Cox Says:

Both Sli Nua trainings I have attended Selling – when times are tough and Be your own PR Person were highly organised, professional and productive.

I have learnt new skills in both Sales and PR and the confidence to implement them.

Liam and his team together create a suitable setting for learning, networking and getting pro-active. Thank

I recently attended a Sli Nua Networking morning in Athlone. It was a very worthwhile experience and I would recommend it to anybody in business. It offered the opportunitty to meet like-minded people and share ideas. I will attend more Sli Nua events in the future and wish Liam and all his team the best of luck for the future.
